At Labofine, we understand the importance of providing accurate and comprehensive nutrition information to your customers. Our nutritional labeling services provide you with the necessary information to ensure your products meet the nutritional labeling requirements of Health Canada, the United States FDA, and other applicable regulations.
Health Canada Requirements on Nutrition Labels
Some of the differences between the food labeling requirements in the U.S. and Canada include the units of measure and bilingual requirements in the western provinces. In Canada, food labels must be written in both Canadian English and Canadian French, as well as Canadian bilingual which features both French and English.
In addition to the nutrition facts table, food products must also include an ingredient list and allergen labeling. The ingredient list must include all ingredients used in the food product in descending order of their proportion by weight. Allergen labeling must include any of the top eight allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
Foods That May Not Require Nutritional Labeling
Foods that may not require a nutrition facts label include fresh fruits and vegetables, raw single-ingredient meat, poultry, and seafood, processed foods containing only salt or sugar, food products packaged and sold in same-day retail locations such as bakeries and delis, and alcoholic beverages. These products do not have to meet the labeling requirements of Health Canada, the United States FDA, or other applicable regulations.
What Are the Advantages of Nutrition Labeling?
Nutrition labeling offers several advantages to food producers and manufacturers, including transparency, professionalism, and marketing. Transparency allows customers to make informed decisions about the food they are purchasing, while professionalism helps to reinforce the credibility of the food producer or manufacturer. Additionally, nutrition labeling can be used as a marketing tool to highlight the health benefits of a product or to target specific nutrition-seeking customers.
